A tip from Marketing Matters

July 10th, 2009 by Mike Knutson

The South Dakota Small Business Administration (SBA) hit a homerun yesterday with a free webinar titled “Roadmap to Marketing Success: Steps to Writing a Successful Marketing Plan.”

While the presenters from Lawrence & Schiller did an excellent job identifying the key steps of creating a good marketing plan, Wayne Wagner of CF Gear put the presentation over the top.  Wayne is a small business owner, and provided those practical tips that every business owner needs.  For instance:

As a small company (seven employees), CF Gear struggled with time allocation.  They would love to have involved everyone in all steps of their marketing plan’s development. But because the business had to keep operating, not everyone was as involved throughout.

Wayne also commented that they learned people on the front lines had a lot of good ideas that needed to be incorporated into the plan.  For that reason, next time they intend to create mechanisms for more input from everyone.  One such mechanism he mentioned was a survey tool.

Initially, I thought of adding other tips like this to this blog post.  Instead, I’m going to pass along the best advice I can share - go watch the webcast yourself! They’ve already archived webinars from previous workshops on the SD SBA site and will upload the “Roadmap to Marketing Success” presentation shortly.

After doing so, I think you’ll be inspired to participate in the upcoming webinars. To sign up, check out this link.

Thanks for sharing the webcast! Sounds like just what I need. I think a successful marketing plan these days requires good use of social media marketing with YouTube and AdWido… I’ll have to check out the webinars and see what they have to say about this sort of thing.
