Great list! I’m particularly drawn your first point “It increases your social connection.” I’m a huge fan of the importance of building relationships in community and economic development work.
It also reminds me of the message of Connected: The surprising power of social networks; that the decisions we make have an impact on a large group of people, starting with our social network and stretching out three people removed. In other words, when I felt overwhelmed by my work last, it had a negative impact on my friends, my friends friends, and my friends friends friends.
There’s a power in social networks because we need the social support you mention. But if our network is largely negative, we also reap the negative. Thanks for connecting. I hope to continue to follow your work.

Thanks Mike. I suspect that the emotional contagion goes beyond three degrees (there are recent studies out there, but I haven’t looked). Fascinating stuff.
